PWSD partners with local companies to offer Dual Credit opportunities
Partnership with NAIT, Aquatera, Ensign Energy, and Careers: The Next Generation:
Oil and Gas Field Production Operator and Water and Wastewater Operator Programs
On May 21, 2015, the three local School Districts in Grande Prairie announced two additional unique opportunities for students, to be offered in the upcoming school year. In partnership with NAIT, Aquatera, Ensign Energy, and Careers: The Next Generation, students will have access to a blended learning environment where they will complete the requirements for certificates from NAIT in Oil and Gas Field Production Operator or Water and Wastewater Operator, over a two-year period. Students will be required to pay an annual cautionary fee of $300, refunded upon successful completion of the program, while school districts will pay approximately $1,000 annually for each student-participant. After two years, students will receive a certificate. Students in the Water and Wastewater Operator Program may continue their studies at NAIT to complete a diploma.
Partnership with Encana Corporation:
Fourth Class Power Engineer
In an effort to provide students with career training while obtaining a high school diploma, PWSD has partnered with Encana Corporation to offer career path opportunities in the oil field as a Fourth Class Power Engineer. A partnership with Weyerhaeuser also allows students to pursue certification as a Fourth Class Power Engineer through a combination of dual credit courses and summer work experience terms during all three years of high school.
