The service provider is working to resolve the issue. Students and staff have since returned to the building and have resumed normal activities.

UPDATE #2: Fri., Feb. 22, 2019, 11:00 a.m.: ATCO and the Fire Department have checked Whispering Ridge Community School and deemed it safe for occupancy. Staff and students are now walking back to the school from the Grande Prairie Alliance Church. A PWPSD bus has been dispatched for any students with mobility issues. PWPSD has received reports that the odour was possibly due to escaping sewer gases in the area.

Friday, February 22, 2019, 10:00 a.m. – An odour, thought to be natural gas, was detected by staff at Whispering Ridge Community School this morning. Staff are currently in the process of evacuating students to the nearby Grande Prairie Alliance Church. Students and staff are safe and accounted for, and are following the prescribed evacuation procedure. The fire department is currently checking the school. An update will be posted as soon as we receive more information. What is an evacuation? - A response to a possible danger INSIDE the school.
- Staff will escort students to a safe area, away from the school.
- If necessary, students will be transported to the school's predetermined safe location.
- Examples: Strong odours, fire, chemical spill, gas leak, etc.
