AADAC Counselor

AADAC Vision: A healthy society that is free from the harmful effects of alcohol, other drugs and gambling.


AADAC (the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission) is an agency funded by the Government of Alberta to assist Albertans in achieving freedom from the harmful effects of alcohol, other drugs and gambling.

An AADAC counsellor offers support and counseling at Sexsmith Secondary School on a weekly basis to students who . . . . .

  • struggle with addiction
  • want to prevent harmful involvement
  • want to know it they are at risk
  • live in families where there is or has been alcohol or drug abuse

Talk to a principal or counselor if you wish to meet with the AADAC counselor.

FNMI (First Nations, Metis, Inuit) Liaison Worker

 Marcel Lamoureux, our FNMI liason worker, is available most days in the counselling office.  His role is to:

  • Meet with FNMI students to help assess and support the academic and social needs of the students
  • Support FNMI students in their efforts to obtain an education
  • Assist FNMI students to develop pride in, and appreciation for, their FNMI culture and heritage
  • Assist teachers and those working with FNMI students to develop an understanding and respect for FNMI culture
  • Promote FNMI awareness in the school and communityserve as liaison between FNMI students with the various agencies concerned with the education and welfare of FNMI people
  • Increase the knowledge and understanding of FNMI history in a true and accurate fashion

Sexsmith Schools Community Team

What is it?

The school-community team is a joint service of Sexsmith Secondary School and Robert W. Zahara Public School.  It is made up of agency representatives who meet in the school to work closely and confidentially with parents and students who are in need of additional support. 

The team consists of the following members:
