 Individual Education Programs

Although all students follow the curriculum, as mandated by Alberta Education, as closely as possible, the school makes relevant changes for students with special needs in attempts to meet the wide variety of educational needs. This is done by providing alternatives within, or to, the regular classes, if it is considered in the best interest of the student. To assist students experiencing difficulty in one or more areas of their educational program, a modified program will be developed. Classroom teachers will recommend students who are experiencing difficulty for testing. Parent/guardian approval is required before the teacher can proceed. Program modifications may be implemented within the regular classroom or elsewhere in the school (Special Education room). The length of duration in special programs will vary with each student and it depends on their specific needs.

Special Programs

Programs are developed for students in consultation with the special education teacher. A range of students are served in the school, from those with mild to moderate learning difficulties to those who have severe difficulties. Referral systems for in-school assessments and consultation are school based.

Religious Education (Optional)

With the cooperation of the Central Peace Ministerial Association, Spirit River Regional Academy will be providing an optional religious education course for grades five and six. The curriculum, the Grande Prairie Public School District Religious Education Program, is a survey of the Old and New Testament.
