Due Date: Friday, June 12

Book Returns:

All library books, school band instruments and band music are due back on Friday, June 12.  There will be a cart outside the school doors from 9:00 to 3:30 during the weeks of June 1st to 5th and June 8th to 12th.   Please leave your textbooks and band music on the cart. Call the office to let them know you are leaving band equipment at the door.  The cost of any books or equipment not returned will be added to your school account.  If you are unable to return your books or equipment during this time please call the school to make alternate arrangements.  

Locker Contents Pickup:

All of the lockers have been cleaned out.  The contents have been bagged, labeled and arranged alphabetically in the cafeteria. Students and parents can pick their locker contents up anytime before Friday, June 12. After June 12 anything not picked up will be donated.

​Cancellations include: Beaverlodge, Bezanson, Clairmont, Elmworth, Grande Prairie, Grovedale, Hythe, LaGlace, Ridgevalley, Sexsmith, Teepee Creek, Wembley, and Whispering Ridge. 

Cold weather cancellation: Buses are cancelled at -40° Celsius excluding wind chill, or -48° with wind chill (Source: Weather Network), as outlined in PWPSD Policy EEAF – PWPSD Buses and School Operation during Inclement Weather.

Diploma Exams:
 Students who miss Diploma Exams will be able to write at the next available writing time (April). On a day when buses are cancelled due to inclement weather, students are exempt from writing the scheduled Diploma Exam, and their final mark will be based on course work. If the Diploma Exam includes a Part A and a Part B, their final mark will be a blend of course work and the portion of the Diploma Exam the student has written.

PWPSD schools will be closed during December 23, 2019 - January 3, 2020. Classes resume on Monday, January 6. PWPSD offices and shops will be closed to the public during the school break.

This test will take place during the school day. http://www.alertready.ca/

During the test, an alert sound will go off on compatible cellphones with a message letting the cellphone user know that the sound is part of a test, and there is no need for concern. If the cellphone is switched off or on silent mode, there will be no sound, but a banner will be displayed and the phone may vibrate.

The "Life Synergy for Youth" presentation and small group sessions for new PWA students scheduled for November have been postponed until December because of poor road conditions. The parent/guardian information session has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 5th at 7:00 pm in the PWA library. Students who are new to PWA have been given an information sheet to give to their parents/guardians.

​At the recommendation of the RCMP, administration at Peace Wapiti Academy have lifted the Lock-down protocol put in place earlier this afternoon while the RCMP searched for an alleged knife that was allegedly used in a threatening manner. All students and staff were safe during the Lock-down and no one was injured in the incident.

​As a precaution, the nearby Harry Balfour School was briefly placed on Hold and Secure, locking school doors to ensure staff and students were safe, and to reduce activity while officials conducted their work in the area. The Hold and Secure at Harry Balfour School was based on incorrect information at the time. 


All students and staff at Peace Wapiti Academy and Harry Balfour School are safe.

What is a Lock-down?

  • A response to a threat and/or incident INSIDE or APPROACHING the school building.
  • The goal is to protect people behind locked doors.
  • Students and staff are locked inside secure areas. School does not operate as normal. All cellular phones are turned off. No one can enter or leave the school.

​As part of our Health and CALM programming we have invited our School Resource Officers (RCMP) into our school next week to provide our grade 10, 11, and 12 classes with an educational presentation on Sexual Consent.  The presentation talks about consent, the age of consent and the legal side of consent.  In addition, the RCMP will present on how to make sure you have consent, what consent is not, what to do if you've been sexually assaulted, what the police will want to know and how to help a victim of sexual assault.   If you wish for your child to be excluded from this presentation, please fill out the exclusion consent form that has been sent to your email.  If you have any questions, please contact Kaila Villiger.

​Update: Monday, June 24, 2019, 10:50 a.m.: ATCO has informed staff that the unplanned power outage at Central Office will begin at 11:45 a.m. today, and last approximately two to three hours. 

Monday, June 24, 2019, 10:40 a.m.: There will be an unplanned power outage at PWPSD Central Office, beginning this morning and lasting approximately 2-3 hours, while ATCO replaces three transformers. An updated message will be posted when service has been restored.
