Excerpts from the nomination packages:
Sarah Herman, Grade 6 teacher at Whispering Ridge Community School:
Mrs. Herman consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty for her students, colleagues, and community. She establishes numerous activities for students that come at the expense of her personal and family time. She has created a number of unique opportunities for her students including developing a student wellness team at the school that promotes social, physical and nutritional wellness in our school. Recently she helped to lead a fundraiser with all the proceeds being donated to Rising Above (in 2019 she fundraised to help provide clothing to three local nonprofit organizations). In addition to her work with the Wellness team, Mrs. Herman volunteers her time to a number of extracurricular activities. Not only does she coach junior high volleyball, but also coaches triple ball for Grades 5 and 6, organizes tournaments, helps plan and attends community events, as well as being a mentor to new teachers that enter the profession. Our community and school are fortunate to have Mrs. Herman's passion and her willingness to help everyone around her. She does all of these things with a smile and a positivity that radiates off her.

Lisa Wiseman, Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) Practitioner at PWPSD:
What makes Lisa Wiseman an exceptional support is multi-faceted. She cares deeply for people in general and is committed to helping in any way she can. Lisa is motivated to offer support rather than waiting to be asked. Her kindness is genuine and open to anyone and everyone she meets. For example, at Thanksgiving, a family she works with had insufficient food to make the holiday special. Rather than going to the food bank or asking businesses for donations, Lisa took the turkey from her freezer and made arrangements to have it delivered to the family in need. There are many examples of this type of willingness to give in Lisa's life. This also encompasses her willingness to give of her time. Often, her job takes her all around the area, from Hythe to Ridgevalley, to Wembley, to Woking. Travel is a part of her job, yet without hesitation, she will reschedule her day or make appointments to see families in the evening when she would normally be at home with her family. Lisa is non-judgmental and treats everyone like a friend. She gives families hope without blame or shame. There have been so many folks who have risen up out of tough situations because of the kindness, support and meaningful strategies Lisa has offered. It is an honour to work with her and she inspires all of us to be better and love more.
What stands out for me is the way Lisa takes people where they're at and treats everyone with sincere kindness and respect. She is very real and authentic. She knows that we all have struggles of one sort or another and that we all need someone who cares to be there. That's exactly what she does. She shares love, hope, kindness and meaningful strategies in how to navigate the complexities of family life and raising children. Lisa offers her assistance without any baggage or judgement and it makes people feel that they can let their guards down and really hear what is being said. They can ask questions and admit that things aren't perfect. It makes for productive conversations and real growth. Lisa Wiseman is one of the most giving, thoughtful people I have met in my life (and I've been around for awhile). She inspires me just by being who she is. Plus, everywhere she goes she brings joy and a little sparkle (in the most humble, genuine way).
