PWSD students named ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’

October 10, 2018

Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWSD) congratulates two Beaverlodge Regional High School (BRHS) students who were among those recognized by the Grande Prairie Volunteer Service Bureau with Leaders of Tomorrow Awards at the annual volunteer appreciation luncheon on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. The awards, presented by ATCO, recognize students aged 13 to 18 years old who have made outstanding contributions to their communities through volunteerism. Award recipients receive a trophy, certificate and a monetary award of $100, in addition to a $100 donation in their name to a registered charity of their choice.

True Lojczyc, Grade 12 student at BRHS, was recognized in the 16 to 18 years award category for coaching the Rebels Volleyball Program. The after school program, open to Grades 4-9 students, fits perfectly with her love of the sport. She also helps at her youth group and participates in her school's leadership program.

"I love volunteering with the Rebels Volleyball Program," says Miss Lojczyc. "It's a sport that I've always been really passionate about, and it's so cool to get to see little kids getting excited about something that I love so much. I help out at my youth group because faith is really important to me. In my school's leadership program, I get to see and participate in other kids' daily lives and get to be a part of the fun that they have in making their school better."

Also recognized in the 16 to 18 years category was Sky Vetsch, Grade 11 student at BRHS. Miss Vetsch has already built an impressive resume of volunteerism, including the Saint Lawrence Centre's Saturday supper program, food bank drives, gift-wrapping for the local Christmas hamper program, and tutoring students at Beaverlodge Elementary School.

"Love changes lives," says Miss Vetsch. "Through the Saturday supper program, I have witnessed the hope the Saint Lawrence Centre provides as struggling individuals receive a hot meal."
