Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWSD) congratulates Principal Shawn O’Shea of Clairmont Community School on being selected as a recipient of the 2015-2016 Distinguished Leadership Award, presented by the Council for School Leadership.
Mr. O’Shea was named among a list of 30 distinguished leaders representing school divisions across Alberta.
“It’s a tremendous honour to be one of the recipients of the Distinguished Leadership Award,” says Mr. O’Shea. “Clairmont Community School is a remarkable place, filled with exceptional staff and students. The exciting shifts we have made in teacher practice have been due to the countless hours and support of the staff and the community. To receive the nomination from the staff, students and community of Clairmont is beyond humbling.”
Award winners are school administrators and members of the Council for School Leadership who demonstrate excellence in a range of criteria tied to Alberta’s Principal Quality Leadership Framework. Nominees are judged by a selection committee awarding points on a five-point scale for each of the Principal Quality Leadership Competencies.
Mr. O’Shea will be recognized with a certificate at an awards dinner on May 27th at the Hyatt Hotel in Calgary, and will be included in an upcoming edition of Leadership Update newsletter, published by the Council for School Leadership.
“Shawn is a dedicated Principal who strives to serve his students, his staff, and his community,” says Superintendent Sheldon Rowe. “The Distinguished Leadership Award is proof of his commitment in these three areas.”
Now in his fifth year as Principal of Clairmont Community School, Mr. O’Shea has also served in other leadership capacities throughout PWSD, as Principal of Woking School and Assistant Principal at Peace Wapiti Academy. In September, he will move into the role of Principal Designate of the new Whispering Ridge Community School.
