Information

Grande Prairie, AB, Monday, June 24, 2019, 10:15 a.m. – Students and staff at Wembley Elementary School and Helen E. Taylor School were briefly under Hold and Secure earlier this morning while police responded to a situation in the area. During the Hold and Secure, students and staff were safe inside the school. Those participating in a class field trip within the town were directed to the local arena. The police advised both schools when the situation had ended.

What is Hold and Secure?

  • A response to an unrelated threat and/or incident in close proximity to the school, taking place OUTSIDE the school.
  • School life continues as normal inside the school, however, the precautionary measure to lock school doors is taken to ensure staff and students are safe, and to reduce activity while officials conduct their work.
  • Access to and from the school is restricted and carefully monitored. The Hold and Secure is lifted when emergency personnel advise that the situation has ended.
  • Examples: Nearby police activity, a threatening animal.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU
GRADE 4 CONSULTATION: Wembley Elementary School & Helen E. Taylor School

Due to population growth in the Wembley area, Peace Wapiti Public School Division has received provincial support for two modular classrooms, creating a unique opportunity to discuss programming at our two schools. We invite Wembley and area community members and school staff to attend a meeting to provide feedback to Trustees.

WHEN: Thursday, April 19 at 6:00 p.m. Snacks will be provided.
WHERE: Wembley Elementary School, 9601-96 Street

Attendees will be encouraged to express feedback on two possible options:

  1. Addition of two modular classrooms at Wembley Elementary School.
Maintain the status quo – Grade 4 remains at Wembley Elementary School.

  2. Addition of two modular classrooms at Helen E. Taylor School.
Grade 4 moves to Helen E. Taylor School, creating a K-Grade 3 (with additional space that could be used for a Junior Kindergarten) and a Grades 4-9 school.
