School Profile

Bonanza School is located 130 Km NW of Grande Prairie. We are very proud of our school, its students, and staff. This year we are running with 4 teachers on staff. With 50 students, we are able to get to know our students very well. Our program serves students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Grade 9 and up attend Savanna School and a few attend South Peace or Central Middle School in Dawson Creek, BC.

swansBonanza and area is home to many forms of wildlife which may be found in their natural habitat or frequenting fields and farmlands...

Moose, black bear, white tailed deer, mule deer, and elk (or wapiti - our school division's signature animal), may be seen feeding or strolling throughout the land.

Skies are filled with Canada Geese, Tundra Swans, and occasionally Trumpeter Swans, many species of ducks, and a variety of songbirds, jays, and birds of prey.

Ravens are a common resident of the north, and on just about any day, the raucous call of the raven can be heard echoing through the skies.

Nature viewing is good just about anywhere...this is really an area where it's not hard to be "one with the land"...but officially, there are a couple of neat spots which are great to visit if you want to view wildlife:

People in our area are busy with many tasks and often become very proficient in serving in a number of jobs.

Agriculture is one of the main forms of livelihood in the Peace Country. Around Bonanza, there are many cattle farms, lots of horses, grain farms, and many wonderful gardens.

The oil and gas industry, like most areas in the Peace Country, has really grown. Roads are busy with all kinds of trucks transporting water, equipment, and workers to and from the many wells and plants. Many businesses have sprung up in the area to support the "oil patch" as it is known.

Many small businesses such as community stores, craft people, water hauling, mechanics shops, and a host of other businesses help keep our communities alive and thriving with the services they offer.

Recreation in Bonanza and area is FUN!

The area is rich with a variety of activities such as horse-back riding, dirt-biking, quadding - check out the mudbog at the Bonanza Fair each summer! Skating, curling, ball, hockey, dance, drama, and many others keep people fit and socializing!

There are lots of opportunities around for camping, fishing in summer and winter, boating, water-skiing, swimming, hiking, and back-packing locally and within a few hours' radius.
