
Grande Prairie, AB – Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) is committed to publishing a regular update during the indefinite cancellation of classes in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Due to the uncertainty of the situation, future releases of new information may contradict today's announcement.
- Home learning plans: PWPSD learning plans adhere to the recommendations of Alberta Education's guide for continuing student learning which outlines content delivery expectations and average work assignment times for Kindergarten - Grade 3 (five hours per week), Grades 4-6 (five hours per week), Grades 7-9 (10 hours per week) and Grades 10-12 (three hours per course, per week). Teachers will deliver course material for this week by 3:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 24. Where online learning is unavailable, schools will offer accommodations such as course packages and telephone check-ins. Parents wishing to contact teachers for learning support may do so during 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on regular school days. PWPSD will continue to observe all non-operational days and holidays outlined in the 2019-2020 school year calendar.
- Reimbursement of fees: Schools will begin to work on reimbursing fees on a pro-rated basis in the coming weeks. Families should wait for a call or email from their school regarding the process and instructions to complete fees reimbursement transactions.
- All PWPSD school playgrounds closed indefinitely: On Friday, March 20, the Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership (GPREP) announced playground closures in Beaverlodge, Clairmont, Grande Prairie, Hythe, Sexsmith and Wembley, including those located on school grounds, in an effort to reduce community transmission of COVID-19.
