Grande Prairie, AB – Thursday, October 24, 2019, 1:30 p.m.: Administration at Peace Wapiti Academy have placed the school on lock-down while staff and the RCMP search for an alleged knife that was allegedly used in a threatening manner.
As a precaution, the nearby Harry Balfour School was briefly placed on Hold and Secure, locking school doors to ensure staff and students were safe, and to reduce activity while officials conducted their work in the area. The Hold and Secure at Harry Balfour School was based on incorrect information at the time.
All students and staff at Peace Wapiti Academy and Harry Balfour School are safe.
What is a Lock-down?
- A response to a threat and/or incident INSIDE or APPROACHING the school building.
- The goal is to protect people behind locked doors.
- Students and staff are locked inside secure areas. School does not operate as normal. All cellular phones are turned off. No one can enter or leave the school.
