Grande Prairie – Grade 7 student Leigha Haynes is the winner of the sixth annual Young at Art Photography Contest in the 12 and under category, hosted by T. Sedore Photography.
Photographer Tanya Sedore and Young at Art board members Tammy Kaiser and Trena Shaw presented Leigha with her prize at Harry Balfour School on June 21, 2019 – a Nikon DSLR camera and a basket of chocolates from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory – valued at more than $1,000.
Leigha's photo of a Lego man stepping on a mosquito is currently being printed on canvas by Watson's Photography. Ms. Sedore said the company is a supporter of the contest, along with lead sponsor Grande Prairie North Shell.
Visibly surprised to hear her name called, Leigha credits her mom for telling her about the contest.
"I wanted to try, but I didn't think I'd actually win," she says.
During the presentation, Ms. Sedore noted that second, third and fourth place winners will receive something in the mail, hinting that more students from Harry Balfour are included among those prizes.
Congratulations, Leigha. We look forward to sharing your image very soon!
