When Assistant Superintendent Darren Young delivered the Jumpstart donation of sports equipment to Clairmont Community School (CCS) on May 9, 2017, he was met by a group of eager Grade 5 students who were ready to unpack the items and begin playing.
The donation, which will help facilitate noon hour and after school activities for students, included 10 basketballs, 20 lacrosse sticks and 25 yoga mats.
Grade 5 student Neve Nelson spoke on behalf of the group, saying CCS students are very thankful to Jumpstart for the new equipment.

After watching students at play for a moment, Mr. Young thanked the group and CCS Principal Kevin Elias for their help, and then headed over to Wembley to present the same items to the Grades 5-8 students at Helen E. Taylor School.
The group of Grade 8 students who carried the boxes inside the school were more than happy to help teacher Candice Collins unpack the sports equipment. None in the group had tried lacrosse, but quickly caught on to the technique required to use the sticks.
Mr. Young and Trustee Wendy Kelm watched as students assumed yoga poses on the new mats. Not wanting to miss the fun, the pair decided to try some poses for themselves, all the while dodging an impromptu basketball game underway around them.
It was definitely an energy-packed afternoon, with many more to come. Many thanks to Jumpstart Canada and Canadian Tire Grande Prairie for this generous gift.
