A warm welcome is extended to parents and children as they begin their educational journey when Peace Wapiti Public School Division's (PWSD's) annual Kindergarten online registration opens next week on Tuesday, March 21, 2017.
Kindergarten registration for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year is open to all children born in 2012. PWSD offers both full-day and half-day Kindergarten programs. Since start dates and schedules vary across the Division, families should consult with their local school. Additional services and programs are available for younger children identified as having mild to moderate or severe disabilities. PWSD and its partners provide supports to pre-school children who have been early-identified.
"A quality early childhood program lays the groundwork for your child's success," says Karen Chrenek, District Principal at PWSD. "We are ready to work with families to ensure their children experience learning that will set them up for success in the future."
Ms. Chrenek stresses the value of registering your child early to avoid the last-minute rush.
"PWSD schools will continue to register students throughout the spring and up until the end of August – even into the school year. However, a best case scenario is one where your child has been registered early," says Ms. Chrenek.
PWSD offers convenient online registration and families may register their children from the comfort of their own homes.
The online registration process, powered by InfoSnap, will be available to families as of March 21st, to align with the Kindergarten Registration start date. Families may access the online registration in one of two ways: by first clicking the 'Registration' tab on a school website, followed by the Register Online link; or by clicking the 'Register Online' link found in the contact information on the Division website at www.pwsd76.ab.ca.
For the 2017-2018 school year, PWSD will offer 19 elementary school options to area families. Harry Balfour School, located on 104th Street in Grande Prairie, will see transfer of approximately half of its students and their teachers when the new Whispering Ridge Community School opens in January, 2018. North of the city, elementary schools are located in Clairmont, Sexsmith, Teepee Creek, Woking, Rycroft, Spirit River, Eaglesham, Bonanza and Savanna. For families who live in the towns and villages west of the city, welcoming schools are available in Wembley, LaGlace, Beaverlodge, Elmworth and Hythe. Bezanson and Ridgevalley Schools are located east of the city, while Penson School in Grovedale serves families in the southern end of the Division. To find a PWSD school near you, call PWSD's Central Office at 780-532-8133 or click the 'Schools' link on PWSD's website at www.pwsd76.ab.ca.
