Passing the torch – New director for French Language Resource Centre

June 22, 2016

Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWSD), the banker School Board for Grande Prairie's French Language Resource Centre (FLRC), is pleased to announce that Diana Boisvert will assume the role of Director of the FLRC. She will also serve as Vice-President of Second Languages and Intercultural Council (SLIC).

Lesley Doell, FLRC Director since 2006 and current President of the Canadian Association of Immersion Teachers, has accepted a position at Foothills School Division in southern Alberta.

The French Language Resource Centre (FLRC) is a collaboration of Grande Prairie Regional College, Grande Prairie Public School District, Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools, Peace Wapiti Public School Division, Conseil scolaire du Nord-Ouest, High Prairie School Division, Holy Family Catholic Regional Division, Northwest Regional Learning Consortium, Peace River School Division, Association canadienne-française de l'Alberta, Canadian Parents for French, Peace Library System and the Grande Prairie Public Library.

As part of her new position, Ms. Boisvert will assume direction of the Grande Prairie DELF-DALF examination centre, which awards diplomas on behalf of the French Ministry of Education, internationally certifying the French-language competency of its candidates.

Prior to assuming her new role, Ms. Boisvert was involved in a partnership with France which included a job shadowing experience in Nancy, France. She was one of the first French as a Second Language (FSL) teachers to pilot DELF PRIM exams in Canada. In recognition of her initiatives, she has presented at local, provincial and national conferences. With more than 13 years of experience in FSL and French Immersion education, she has successfully applied best practices in second language teaching and learning to her students through use of current resources. Among her peers, she is regarded as the "go-to" specialist for FSL.

Ms. Doell says the flame for quality French education will continue to burn in Northwestern Alberta under Ms. Boisvert's leadership.

"It has been an honour to serve French teachers in Northwestern Alberta for the past ten years. Much capacity has been created, programs have been enhanced, and our Centre has been the envy of many jurisdictions across Alberta and the country," adds Ms. Doell.
