During the month of May, the students and staff of schools within Grande Prairie Public School Division, Grande Prairie Catholic School Division and Peace Wapiti Public School Division accepted a challenge to join forces in raising funds for those impacted by the Fort McMurray and area wildfire.

Student-led fundraisers, ranging from popcorn sales to community barbecues and car wash events, have generated $40,628.48 to date, along with donated goods. Fundraising is ongoing at many schools, and additional dollars raised beyond the initial tally will also be donated to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal.
