Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWSD) will be well represented by 33 students at the North West Regional Skills Canada Competition (RSCC) on April 21-22 in Fairview. Skills Canada Competitions feature the talents of Alberta's trade and technology students. The regional level of competition is open to students competing in the areas of Auto Service, Baking, Cabinet Making, Carpentry, Culinary Arts, Fashion Technology, Graphic Design, IT Network Support, Junior and Intermediate Hairstyling, Outdoor Power and Recreation Equipment, Photography, Robotics, TV and Video Production, Welding, and Workplace Safety.
Beaverlodge Regional High School will send four students to the RSCC event. Competitors from the school's Grade 11 class include Lilli Fuchs, Junior Hairstyling; Alvina Kronhardt, Intermediate Hairstyling; and Lalita Janke, Baking. Grade 12 student Hazen Bask will compete in Fantasy Hairstyling.
Peace Wapiti Academy will be represented by a team of 13 students, including Grade 12 students Kendall Saunders and Brooke Golnick who will both compete in Photography. Among the Robotics competitors will be Devon Hopkins, Grade 10; Morgan Embree, Grade 11; and Grade 12 students Nick George and Conall Muir. Grade 10 students Jason Cote and Riley Welander will compete in Outdoor Power and Recreation Equipment. Landon Cook, Grade 11, and Nick Bailey, Grade 12, will face off in Carpentry. Grade 12 student Michael Jabs will showcase his skills in the Cabinet Making category. Maelene Monnette, Grade 10, will compete in Junior Hairstyling, and Ashley Bremont, Grade 12, will compete in Intermediate Hairstyling.
For the second year in a row, Grade 11 student Michaela Huber will represent Savanna School in Culinary Arts. New to the RSCC is Sven Dietsche, a Grade 10 student who will compete in Baking.
Sexsmith Secondary School will send 12 students to the competition. Grade 11 student Rylie Dahl will compete in the Junior Hairstyling category, and Intermediate Hairstyling will feature techniques by Brittani Gould, Grade 11, and Sydney Martell, Grade 12. The Carpentry category will showcase the talents of Grade 10 students Dylan Galey and Justin Toews, and Grade 12 student Justin Krahn. Jared Fehr, Grade 10, and Dallen Liland, Grade 12, will compete in Cabinet Making. Dylan Moodie, Grade 10, and Levi Jaarsma, Grade 12, will compete in the Outdoor Power and Recreation Equipment category. Cherokee Cuddy, Grade 12, will compete in Baking; and Kade Smith, Grade 11, will compete in Auto Service.
Katryna Knells, a Grade 11 student at Spirit River Regional Academy, will compete in Culinary Arts, and Katrina Hein, Grade 12, will showcase her skills in Baking.
