A warm welcome is extended to parents and children as they begin their educational journey during Peace Wapiti Public School Division's (PWSD's) annual Kindergarten registration which is set to kick off this week on Thursday, March 10, 2016.
Kindergarten registration for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year is open to all children born in 2011. PWSD offers both full-day and half-day Kindergarten programs. Since start dates and schedules vary across the Division, families should consult with their school. Additional services and programs are available for younger children who have been identified as having mild to moderate or severe disabilities. PWSD and its partners provide supports to pre-school children who have been early-identified.
"A quality early childhood program lays the groundwork for your child's success," says Karen Chrenek, District Principal at PWSD. "We are ready to work with families to ensure their children experience learning that will set them up for success in the future."
Ms. Chrenek stresses the value of registering your child early to avoid the last-minute rush.
"PWSD schools will continue to register students throughout the spring and up until the end of August – even into the school year. However, a best case scenario is one where your child has been registered early," says Ms. Chrenek.
For the first time, families will be able to register their children at Peace Wapiti Public Schools from the comfort of their own homes.
The first phase of the new online registration process, powered by InfoSnap, will be open to new students only and will be available to families as of March 10th to align with the Kindergarten Registration start date. This phase will also include families who wish to register new students for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year. In May, the second phase of online registration will be open to all existing PWSD students. Families may access the online registration in one of two ways: by first clicking the Schools tab found on PWSD's website, www.pwsd76.ab.ca, followed by the Register Online link; or by first clicking the Registration tab on a PWSD school website, followed by the Register Online link.
PWSD includes a total of 18 elementary schools, with Harry Balfour School located in the heart of Grande Prairie on 104th Street. North of the city, elementary schools are located in Clairmont, Sexsmith, Teepee Creek, Woking, Rycroft, Spirit River, Eaglesham, Bonanza and Savanna. For families who live in the towns and villages west of the city, welcoming schools are available in Wembley, LaGlace, Beaverlodge, Elmworth and Hythe; with Bezanson and Ridgevalley Schools to the east; and Penson School in Grovedale to serve families in the southern end of the Division.
