What if you could have a direct impact on education and play a role in ensuring that your school is equipping your child for success? You can. Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWSD) reminds parents to complete and return Alberta Education's annual Accountability Pillar Survey by February 26th, 2016.
An annual check-up on the education system, The Accountability Pillar Survey uses a number of indicators to determine how Alberta's schools are measuring up. All surveys are anonymous and ask questions about the school environment, program of studies, the quality of education being offered, student preparation for the world of work, building citizenship in students, the level of parental involvement, and the school improvement process.
All teachers, Grades 4, 7 and 10 students and their parents will be surveyed. Students and teachers will complete the survey online at school. Parent surveys are scheduled to arrive in mailboxes between the end of January and early February. Schools with fewer than 120 students enrolled in Grades 4-12 will see the survey expanded to include all students in Grades 4 and above, and their parents.
Superintendent Sheldon Rowe says it is very important for parents to complete all questions in the survey.
"We're interested in hearing from as many parents as possible on how our schools are performing," says Mr. Rowe. "Parents have the opportunity to influence their child's education simply by completing and returning the survey before February 26th, 2016. If parents are unsure of what is being asked in any part of the survey, it's best to contact the school's Principal for clarification. Skipping sections or selecting the "Don't Know" response will impact our understanding of how we are doing in those areas."
Parents can learn more about the programs and initiatives offered by their child's school by reading the Accountability Pillar information sheet that was included in January school newsletters or sent home as a separate document.
Once surveys have been gathered and analyzed by Alberta Education, results will be made available to PWSD in May, 2016. The results will be reported publicly as part of PWSD's Three-Year Education Plan and the Annual Education Results Report.
