Interactive School Councils meeting at Sexsmith Secondary School

The cafeteria at Sexsmith Secondary School was alive with animated discussion when School Councils met for their Fall General Meeting on October 27th. Dana McIntosh, Board Chair, opened the meeting with an update from the Division highlighting new developments and staff and student achievements. Ms. McIntosh also noted that those wishing to submit a resolution for change at the 2016 Alberta School Councils’ Association (ASCA) Conference and Annual General Meeting on April 24th in Edmonton should contact Tyla Savard, ASCA Provincial Director, at tycartay@msn.com, (780) 897-4875. The deadline for submissions of issues for consideration at the event is December 16th. PWSD covers Division-wide membership in ASCA, and also offers free busing to and from the event.  

PWSD’s Secretary Treasurer, Ralph Paquin, offered tips on School Generated Funds (SGF) management using a sample budget presented by Principal Mike Lauzon of Sexsmith Secondary School.

Deputy Superintendent Mark Davidson updated parents on PWSD’s Quality Learning Environment.

Assistant Superintendent Bob Stewart explained how to access diploma exam results and credential standing using myPass, a new website application offered by Alberta Education:  https://public.education.alberta.ca/PASI/myPass.

Superintendent Sheldon Rowe (pictured) updated attendees on the status of the current School Act and the unproclaimed Education Act. Education Minister David Eggen has requested input from School Boards, College of Alberta School Superintendents (CASS), and School Councils on proposed changes to the School Act. Trustees led group discussions to gather input from PWSD School Council members.
