Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWSD) will be well represented by 27 students at the upcoming North West Regional Skills Canada Competition on April 23-24 in Fairview.
Beaverlodge Regional High School will send six students to the event. Grade 11 student Sandy Nitschke, competing in the Baking category, will have four hours to produce a braided bread loaf, buns, a torte and decorate a cake. Sarah Taylor, Grade 10, and Darci Peterson, Grade 11, will face off in the Junior Hairstyling category when they execute a creative braiding style within the 90-minute time limit. In Intermediate Hairstyling, Baeley Lowen, Grade 12, and Daytona Barclay, Grade 11, will create and decorate a bridal style. Grade 12 student Nicole Jones will cut, alter, and sew a project as she competes in the Fashion Technology category.
Three Grade 10 students from Savanna School will compete in three separate events: Madison Fedorvich, Junior Hairstyling; Michaela Huber, Culinary Arts; and Bailey McKay, Baking.
Alicia Jones, a Grade 12 student at Spirit River Regional Academy, will compete in the Culinary Arts category.
Peace Wapiti Academy’s eight competitors include Grade 10 students Kristin Cardinal, Junior Hairstyling and Megan Casavant, Baking. Representing the Grade 11 class are Emma Fletcher, Culinary Arts; Nicholas Bailey, Carpentry; and Michael Jabs, Cabinet Making. Grade 12 students Tessa Grimm and Haley Carlyle will both compete in Intermediate Hairstyling; while Jamie Cote will prove his repair skills in Outdoor Power and Recreation Equipment.
Nine competitors from Sexsmith Secondary School include Grade 10 students Duncan De Graaf and Ethan Jaarsma who will compete in the Outdoor Power and Recreation Equipment category, while Brandi Brothen will showcase her skills in Junior Hairstyling. Grade 11 students Dallen Liland and Jaidyn Gardner will face off in Cabinet Making, and Justin Krahn will compete in the Carpentry category. Competitors from the Grade 12 class include Santanna Cuddy, Welding; Alex Holmes, Carpentry; and Ines Gerber, Intermediate Hairstyling.
