A warm welcome is extended to parents and children as they begin their educational journey during Peace Wapiti Public School Division’s annual Kindergarten registration events which are set to kick off at schools within the Division this week, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015.
Registration for the 2015-2016 school year commencing on September 1st, 2015 is open to all children born in 2010. Additional services and programs are available for younger children who have been identified as having mild to moderate or severe disabilities. Peace Wapiti Public School Division and its partners provide supports to pre-school children who have been early-identified.
“A quality early childhood program lays the groundwork for your child’s success,” says Karen Chrenek, Acting Principal at Peace Wapiti Public School Division. “We are ready to work with families to ensure their children experience learning that will set them up for success in the future.”
Ms. Chrenek stresses the value of registering your child early to avoid the last-minute rush.
“PWSD schools will continue to register students throughout the spring and up until the end of August – even into the school year. However, a best case scenario is one where your child has been registered early,” says Ms. Chrenek.
Parents who wish to get a head-start on registration may do so by saving, completing and printing PWSD’s new student registration form which can be accessed online under the ‘Schools’ link at www.pwsd76.ab.ca. Printed copies of the form will also be available at the school office when parents register their child. A birth certificate is required at the time of registration.
PWSD includes a total of 18 elementary schools, with Harry Balfour School located in the heart of Grande Prairie on 104th Street. North of the city, elementary schools are located in Clairmont, Sexsmith, Teepee Creek, Woking, Rycroft, Spirit River, Eaglesham, Bonanza and Savanna. For families who live in the towns and villages west of the city, welcoming schools are available in Wembley, LaGlace, Beaverlodge, Elmworth and Hythe; with Bezanson and Ridgevalley Schools to the east; and Penson School in Grovedale to serve families in the southern end of the Division.
A replacement Robert W. Zahara School in Sexsmith is currently under construction and will open its doors in 2016. Last fall, the Government of Alberta announced a new elementary school for Whispering Ridge subdivision to serve the growing population north of Grande Prairie, with an opening planned for 2017.
