Letter and Intent Form, and Frequently Asked Questions
On December 5, 2016, a letter and intent form were mailed to families who reside within the Whispering Ridge Community School (WRCS) attendance area. By completing and returning the form you are indicating that you wish to have your children attend WRCS. Official registration will take place in the spring, and more information will be required at that time. Thank you for taking the time to complete and return the intent form. The WRCS Learning Commons will feature floor-to-ceiling windows, walls that open up to the student gathering area, flexible furniture, and even a fireplace!

School Boundary Map
The current HBS attendance area will be divided in the south along Highway 40, from the Wapiti River to the Grande Prairie city limits. In the north, the boundary will run along Highway 2 from the Grande Prairie city limits, ending at the interchange with Highway 43, which marks the start of Clairmont Community School's boundary line. The western portion of the current HBS attendance area (see purple section in the map below) will be assigned to WRCS, effective the 2017-2018 school year. Families who reside in the new WRCS attendance area who wish to remain at HBS will be required to provide transportation.

The name: Whispering Ridge Community School (WRCS) Floor Plans

Student capacity: 650 students

Location: North of Grande Prairie in Whispering Ridge subdivision
Size: Total core plus eight modular classrooms equates to approximately 7,035 square meters.
Notable features: Designed and constructed to LEED Silver standards. The school will include a naturally-lit library located near the front entrance, break-out learning spaces throughout the school to provide teachers and students with quiet spaces to work and study, and a centrally-located gym. In December 2015, the County of Grande Prairie announced funding to support a playschool facility at WRCS. The WRCS gymnasium, measuring 738 square metres, will be the largest elementary/junior high gym throughout PWSD, and is only slightly smaller than PWSD's largest high school gym – the Sexsmith Secondary School gym (760 m2).

The main floor of the school will house a large, centrally-located gymnasium with a nearby servery to accommodate food service during school and community events; adjoining Kindergarten classrooms, separated by a Kinder-kitchen; a naturally-lit learning commons boasting three two-story walls of glass; break-out classrooms; foods and CTS classrooms; eight modular classrooms; and a playschool facility which will be operated in partnership with the County of Grande Prairie.
The second floor will include an expandable music room which opens to a large flex space, several classrooms, break-out areas, and dedicated science classrooms.

New Whispering Ridge Community School on schedule
Despite November's wet and unpredictable weather, construction is progressing on schedule on the new Whispering Ridge Community School (WRCS). Crews have been battling muddy conditions which are common for this time of year with Grande Prairie's clay-rich soil. Block layers arrived on site in November and considerable progress has been made since that time, with walls now easily visible upon approach to the construction site. Read more...

Welcome back to the 2016-2017 school year – School construction, Kindergarten start-up, bus safety top PWSD's back-to-school list
Construction continues on the new Whispering Ridge Community School. Water and sewer have been installed to the property line, the bus lane is ready for storm sewer installation, 275 pilings have been installed on site, and grade beam excavation for the foundation will commence this week. Whispering Ridge Community School construction set to begin – Attendance boundary adjustments completed following community consultations
Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWSD) is pleased to announce that Graham Construction is the successful bidder for the construction of Whispering Ridge Community School (WRCS). The tendering process closed on April 12. In their bid, the company set estimated construction costs at $15,792,000. Read more...

Construction Update: Whispering Ridge Community School
PWSD has received the title for the Whispering Ridge Community School land. During the Board Meeting held on February 18, 2016, the Board provided approval to build at the site, and will apply to Alberta Education for a school number which will be required for many upcoming developments. The developer, representatives from the County of Grande Prairie and PWSD, and local parents have met to begin planning for playground facilities. The Board hopes to have a tender document in place by the end of this month, with construction beginning in the spring. An opening is expected in December, 2017.
