Whispering Ridge Community School (WRCS) and Harry Balfour School (HBS) Attendance Boundaries –
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When is WRCS scheduled to open?
A: A mid-year opening is expected in December, 2017.

Q: I am concerned about the disruption of a mid-year change in schools and how it may impact my child’s learning. Is there a plan in place to minimize disruptions to student learning?
A: For the 2017-2018 school year, Kindergarten - Grade 6 classes and teaching staff at HBS will be structured based on the school they will be attending when WRCS opens mid-year. Students will have the same teacher(s) and the same classmates when they move to the new school.

Q: I have seen reference to WRCS opening as a K-6 school mid-year during the 2017-2018 school year. What is happening with junior high?
A: WRCS will add Grade 7 in 2018-2019, followed by Grade 8 in 2019-2020. Grades 9-12 students from the WRCS attendance area will attend Peace Wapiti Academy.

For 2017-2018, students in Grades 7 and 8 from the WRCS attendance area will remain at HBS.

For 2018-2019, students in Grade 8 from the WRCS attendance area will remain at HBS.

Q: I would like my child to remain at HBS and I am willing to provide transportation. How do I make a request to remain at HBS?
A: During the 2016-2017 school year, all families in the WRCS attendance area will be contacted by a representative from PWSD to confirm registration at WRCS. At that time, families in the new WRCS attendance area who wish to remain at HBS will be able to make a request that their child(ren) continue to be registered at and attend HBS. Families of those students WILL be required to provide transportation.
