Guidance for PWPSD Parents/Guardians: November 30 - January 8

Dear PWPSD Parents, 

 

With a state of public health emergency declared by the Government of Alberta on November 24, 2020, the following three new mandatory measures will be in place for education province-wide, effective Monday, November 30, 2020.

  1. In all schools, Grades 7-12 will move to at-home learning on November 30. This grouping of students will participate in at-home learning during November 30 - December 18, and January 4 - 8.

  2. Students in ECS and Grades K-6 will continue to attend school until December 18. This grouping of students will participate in at-home learning during January 4 - 8.
     

  3. All students will return to in-school learning on January 11, 2021.


Diploma exams are optional for the rest of the school year. Students and their families can choose whether to write the exam or receive an exemption for the January, April, June, and August 2021 exam sessions.

NEW, December 3, 2020: The following is additional information regarding diploma exams:

  • Students who plan on attending post-secondary institutions are strongly encouraged to contact an advisor at the college or university to determine if consideration for acceptance is influenced by whether or not they write the diploma exam. Some competitive programs and out of country universities give great consideration to diploma exam marks.


Please review all mandatory public health measures currently in place, which apply to all Albertans, including mandatory restrictions on social gatherings:

  1. No indoor social gatherings are permitted in any setting (private homes, public spaces or workplaces).

  2. Outdoor social gatherings are limited to 10 people and must not have an indoor component.

 
NEW, December 8, 2020: The following is updated information on social gatherings: 
  • Alberta declared a State of Public Health Emergency to protect the health care system from COVID-19. Social gatherings are the top source of transmission.

  • Effective Dec. 8, all indoor and outdoor social gatherings are prohibited. This will be enforced with $1,000 fines.
