PWPSD schools remember

November 07, 2018

Grande Prairie, AB – Peace Wapiti Public Schools will host Remembrance Day ceremonies prior to the official observance on Sunday, November 11. We also join with all Canadians in recognition of aboriginal contributions to military service on November 8, National Aboriginal Veterans Day.

Members of the media who wish to attend school events must RSVP to angelasears@pwsd76.ab.ca. Please check in at the school office upon arrival.

The school will commemorate the sacrifices of past and current veterans through stories, songs, recitations of In Flanders Fields, reading the First and Second World War Honour Rolls, and digital presentations.
Beaverlodge Regional High SchoolFri., Nov. 9, 10:30 a.m.Classrooms will view a Remembrance Day video featuring student performances of poems and readings.
Bezanson SchoolThurs., Nov. 8, 10:30 a.m.Students will share songs, poems, and readings during a ceremony in the gym. Community members welcome.

Clairmont Community SchoolThurs., Nov. 8, 10:30 a.m.Ceremony in the gym, featuring the Junior High Band, CCS Kodiak Singers, Principal Rod Vanstone on the trumpet, and student performances.
Eaglesham School'Night in the Trenches' on Sat., Nov. 10, followed by a ceremony on Sun., Nov. 11, 10:30 a.m.As a continuation of the school's 'Night in the Trenches' tradition, students will dig and then spend Saturday night in trenches at the Eaglesham Ag Society Fairgrounds. Participants will conduct the community Remembrance Day Ceremony on Sunday at Eaglesham Community Hall.
Elmworth SchoolThurs., Nov. 8, 10:00 a.m.Ceremony featuring local Junior High Cadets in uniform and a song performed by the school's music classes.

Grades 4 - 8: 10:45 a.m.

Both events will feature a student Master of Ceremonies, poetry reading and laying of wreaths. Mr. Gerald Cooke will perform on the trumpet. Families and community members welcome.
Helen E. Taylor School Thurs., Nov. 8, 9:35 a.m.Ceremony in the gym featuring a Legion member as guest of honour and performances by music students. Parents and community members are invited to attend the ceremony and view displays of family military photos and stories supplied by students as a personal connection to the past.
Hythe Regional SchoolThurs., Nov. 8, 12:40 p.m.A ceremony with special guests from the local Legion. Grades 4 - 5 will recite In Flanders Fields in English, with a Cree version by the Cree language instructor. Parents and members of all HRS communities welcome.
LaGlace SchoolThurs., Nov. 8, 10:00 a.m.School-wide assembly with video tributes, music and class presentations in the gym.
Peace Academy of Virtual EducationFri., Nov. 9Through the PAVE virtual platform, students will be offered a tour of the Canadian War Museum to learn about Canada's military history and to remember Canadian's service, sacrifice and loss. Students are encouraged to watch the video A Pittance of Time by Terry Kelly and observe two minutes of silence at 11:00 a.m. in respect of the veterans' sacrifice.
