PWSD students ready for Northwest Regional Skills Canada Competition

Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWSD) will be cheering for 28 students as they face off against others in the region at the annual North West Regional Skills Canada Competition (RSCC) on April 19 - 20 in Fairview. Skills Canada competitions feature the talents of Alberta's trade and technology students. The event is open to students competing in the areas of Auto Servicing, Baking, Cabinet Making, Carpentry, Culinary Arts, Fashion Technology, Graphic Design, Junior and Intermediate Hairstyling, IT and Network Support, Outdoor Power and Recreation Equipment, Photography, Robotics, TV/Video Production, Welding, and Workplace Safety.

Four competitors from Beaverlodge Regional High School:

  • Cabinet Making: Blake Souther, Grade 11
  • Carpentry: Daylon Dupuis, Grade 11
  • Hairstyling Intermediate: Meadow Thomas, Grade 12
  • Hairstyling Junior: Demitra Sache, Grade 10

Ten competitors from Peace Wapiti Academy:

  • Carpentry: Brandon Toews, Grade 12 (2017 Provincial Robotics gold medalist)
  • Fashion Technology: Madison Prangnell, Grade 12
  • Hairstyling Intermediate: Brenna Kachnic, Grade 10
  • Hairstyling Junior: Jessica Tobin, Grade 10
  • Outdoor Power and Recreation Equipment: Jason Cote, Grade 12 (2017 National silver medalist in the same category)
  • Robotics team: Grade 10 students Sam Hatch, Jaden Jabs and Sam Street, and Grade 11 student Josh Ryden
  • Welding: Nick Turner, Grade 11

Fourteen competitors from Sexsmith Secondary School:

  • Automobile Technology: David Romanuik, Grade 10
  • Cabinet Making: Landen Badger and Liam Richard, Grade 10; Jared Fehr, Grade 12
  • Carpentry: Liam Palfy, Grade 9; Keegan Pol, Grade 10
  • Hairstyling Intermediate: Emma Finlayson, Grade 9; Erika Beck, Grade 10
  • Hairstyling Junior: Sidney Simon-Steel, Grade 9; Emily Chambers, Grade 10
  • IT Network Systems Administration: Sam Raskauskas, Grade 11
  • Photography: Emma Herbison, Grade 10
  • Robotics team: Jack Muggaberg, Grade 10 and Fox Imler, Grade 11

Qualifying RSCC medalists will earn a place at the Provincial Skills Canada Competition (PSCC) on May 30 - June 1, 2018 at the Edmonton EXPO Centre. Gold medalists from the PSCC event will form Team Alberta and compete at the Skills Canada National Competition at the Edmonton EXPO Centre on June 4 - 5, 2018.
