Bob Stewart appointed Deputy Superintendent
Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWSD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Bob Stewart as Deputy Superintendent, effective May 1, 2016.
Mr. Stewart has served as PWSD's Assistant Superintendent Learning Services since 2014, and as the Assistant Superintendent Inclusive Education in 2011-2014. During 1996 to 2011, he held the principalship of Clairmont Community School, Teepee Creek School and Elmworth School, and was the Assistant Principal at Harry Balfour School. Prior to moving into leadership roles, Mr. Stewart taught at Teepee Creek School and with Fort Vermillion School Division.
"I have had the pleasure of raising my family in the County of Grande Prairie and I appreciate the lasting relationships I have developed with community members while working at PWSD schools," says Mr. Stewart. "I look forward to continuing to support students, staff and parents in my new role."
Mr. Stewart's academic credentials include a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Prince Edward Island and a Bachelor of Secondary Education from the University of Alberta.
During his career at PWSD, Mr. Stewart has served on a number of committees, including chairing the Administrative Finance Committee, and as a member of the Audit, Occupational Health and Safety, Technology, Alberta Initiative for School Improvement, Administrator Professional Development, and District Professional Development committees.
He is a member of the College of Alberta School Superintendents and the Canadian Association for the Practical Study of Law Education.
Mr. Stewart will replace outgoing Deputy Superintendent Mark Davidson, who will assume the role of Superintendent at Medicine Hat School District in April, 2016.
Darren Young appointed Assistant Superintendent Learning Services
PWSD welcomes Darren Young to the role of Assistant Superintendent Learning Services, effective at the start of the upcoming 2016-2017 school year. Mr. Young joined PWSD in 2014 as Principal of Harry Balfour School.
Throughout his career at PWSD and Fort Vermillion School Division, Mr. Young has been actively involved in a broad range of divisional leadership activities. In his most recent post as Principal of Harry Balfour School, he mobilized the school community to implement research-based literacy practices and meaningful use of technology to improve student learning, while focusing on inclusive learning and teaching practices. Mr. Young has served as a member of PWSD's Professional Development Committee, District Finance Committee and the Whispering Ridge Community School Design Team. As a member the Aspiring Leaders Development and Selection Team, he worked to develop a curriculum outline for Principals, was part of the selection committee for prospective applicants, and is a presenter of the leadership development course.
Mr. Young's academic credentials include a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Calgary, a Bachelor of University Studies with a focus in Elementary Education from the University of Maine, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Cape Breton University.
