RCMP respond to suspicious vehicle near Grande Prairie school

January 04, 2016

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The following media release was issued today by the Grande Prairie RCMP. While no student at a Peace Wapiti Public School was involved in this incident, we feel it is important to let you know that our staff will be reminding all students in Kindergarten – Grade 8 about staying safe while traveling to and from school, such as:

  • Walk with a buddy when possible.
  • If someone approaches you, run for safety and yell. Tell an adult immediately.
  • Always ensure a trusted adult knows where you are.

We ask that you reinforce the following topics at home:

  • Do not accept rides – Reinforce to your children that they are never to get into a car with anyone, unless they have permission from their parents.
  • Say no and run – Teach your children that if anyone bothers them, or makes them feel scared or uncomfortable, to trust their feelings and immediately get away from that person.
  • Check first – Ensure that your children always tell a parent or their teacher where they will be at all times.
