PWSD schools to host Terry Fox Run events

September 16, 2015

A number of schools within Peace Wapiti Public School Division will honour the 35th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run through fundraising campaigns and school run events. Local media are invited to attend the following events:

Beaverlodge Elementary SchoolThursday, Sept. 17 at 2:00 p.m. 
Beaverlodge Regional High SchoolWednesday, Sept. 30 at 11:00 a.m.Students will run throughout the town of Beaverlodge.
Bezanson SchoolFriday, Sept. 25 at 1:00 p.m.Students at Bezanson School will participate in what is believed to be the inaugural Terry Fox Run event at the school. Families are invited to an assembly at 1:00 p.m., followed by a run through the community. If the $500 goal is met, Principal Barb Arend will be "pied" by the top fundraising student. Teachers will also be "pied" for each additional $100 beyond the goal.
Bonanza SchoolWednesday, Sept. 30 at 12:30 p.m. 
Clairmont Community SchoolFriday, Sept. 25, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.Students will run around the Clairmont reservoir. Top fundraisers from each Grade will receive Terry Fox Run t-shirts and their names will be entered into a draw - two students will be selected to act as Principal and Vice-Principal for a day in October. The top fundraising class will win a pizza party.
Harry Balfour SchoolFriday, Sept. 18 at 10:45 a.m.*The school aims to exceed last year's $16,482.45 tally. *Staggered start times by Grade, beginning at 10:45 a.m.
LaGlace SchoolWednesday, Sept. 30 at 12:30 p.m. 
Peace Wapiti AcademyWednesday, Sept. 16 
Robert W. Zahara Public SchoolWednesday, Sept. 30, 10:00 a.m.The school has set a $3,500 goal in honour of the 35th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run. RWZ students are divided into teams identified by colour: purple, orange, black, blue, green and yellow. Principal Lawrie McKeith and Assistant Principal Stacey Rorem have agreed to dress and dye their hair in the colours of the two top fundraising teams.
Rycroft SchoolFriday, Sept. 25 at 1:00 p.m. 
Savanna SchoolTuesday, Sept. 29 at 1:50 p.m. The school has set a $1,500 fundraising goal.
Spirit River Regional AcademyWednesday, Sept. 30 
Teepee Creek SchoolFriday, Sept. 25The event will include a welcome-back barbecue at noon, followed by a walk at 1:00 p.m. at the school. To honour the 35th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run, the school has set a $3,500 goal. The 74 students at TCS have issued a challenge to Rycroft School's 110 students: the school with the most funds raised by September 30 will receive a small prize from the losing school.
Wembley Elementary SchoolWednesday, Sept. 30 at 2:30 p.m.The event will take place at Wembley Elementary School.

 
Some PWSD schools alternate fundraising events by year. This year, Elmworth School will host a Jump Rope for Heart event on Friday, Sept. 25.
